The name is derived from the rock in which the castle "Castrum Petrae" was built in the Middle Ages as Byzantine stronghold against the Longobarden. The boulevard and seaside resorts surrounded with palms are visited by many tourists annually. The old city in particular is worth it. Visit beautiful Palazzi from the Middle Ages and the 18th century, as well as the parish church of San Nicoló di Bari from the 18th century with two bell towers and numerous artworks and the market square in front of the church.
