Holiday House in Anjum with Quiet Garden and Lake Views


This nice holiday house ‘Horizon’ is beautiful situated in a small bungalow park (De Skâns) behind the dike of lake Lauwersmeer, next to the old stronghold of Oostmahorn. From the dike you can enjoy spectacular sights over the National Park Lauwersmeer. A beautiful beach is just a couple of hundreds of meters away and the North Sea coast is just a five minute drive. Pets are welcome here.



The living room of ‘Horizon’ and the integrated kitchen offer a beautiful sight over the surrounding pastures and has a direct access to the terras and the garden. With its three bedrooms ‘Horizon’ is equipped for up to 5 persons. 


Upstairs there are 2 bedrooms, one with a small balcony. The third bedroom is at the ground level as well as the bathroom and toilet.



The lovely and quiet garden ends at a small canal. One can barbecue in the garden. 

On the property, there is a private parking, which offers enough space for two cars.



‘Horizon’ offers internet and satellite TV and baby cot and high chair are available on request. Pets are welcome if registered in advance. We do charge 5 euro a day for each pet.

Smoking is not allowed in ‘Horizon’.



Oostmahorn is an old stronghold at the at the western side of the Lauwerslake with a rich history, dating back to the sixteenth century. Nowadays it’s a very pleasant tourist destination at the National Park Lauwersmeer, hosting several holiday resorts.


The lake itself and the direct surroundings are a true paradise for nature lovers, fisherman, water sports enthusiasts, cyclists and hikers. Dogs are more than welcome here as well. There’s a special beach and a forest for them at Lauwersoog.


Within a couple of hundreds of meters there are several playgrounds for children. At the beach, in the small resort ‘De Skâns’ and in Esonstad - which is a holiday resort build as a replica of a typical old Frysian city. In Esonstad you’ll even find a bouncy castle and an indoor playing hall and one can play golf and foot golf here at the local Pitch & Putt area. Renting a bicycle or e-chopper is also possible here. 


In Esonstad you can easily do your daily groceries (a bigger supermarkt is just a couple of kilometers away in Anjum) or find a restaurant, pizzeria or a snackbar.

Another three restaurants are even closer to your holiday house. Some of them offer spectacular lake views. Other good options to enjoy the local seafood cuisine are the sea harbor of Lauwersoog at the northern side of the lake, the old fishing village of Zoutkamp at the eastside of the lake or at Dokkum, the most northern fortified city of Friesland.


To discover the National Park from the waterside you could bring your own boat or surf gear but there are boats and sailing boats for rent as well at ‘Paviljoen La Barca’. If you’re more into cat sailing, try the local cat-club ‘Omaho’, next to the small marina.


A boat-tour, sailing trip to Dokkum, bird or seal expedition can be booked around the corner and a ferry to the beautiful island of Schiermonnikoog, with it’s many miles of sandy beaches, is leaving from Oostmahorn as well. 


The Lauwerslake (Lauwersmeer in dutch) is truly loved by fishermen for its large bream, roach, pike, perch and eel. At the reception of Holland1 you can obtain a fishing permit.


Do you like to walk and do you want to relax? Then visit the fishing village of Paesens-Moddergat with its small museum and experience the Wadden Sea World Heritage with its largest unbroken system of intertidal sand and mud flats in the world. Hiking over the mudflats of the Wadden Sea certainly is one of the most memorable activities in the Netherlands. Guided tours can be booked here every day of the year.


Or just stay and enjoy yourself at your holiday house. Just don’t forget to look up at the universe on a clear night. With the title Dark Sky Park, Lauwersmeer National Park is one of the world’s darkest places. Here, you can truly experience nature in the dark!

    “Das Haus ist Klasse und es war ein herrlicher Urlaub. Das Haus bräuchte ein bisschen Erneuerung, zb ist einiges sehr abgenutzt. Die Kaffeemaschine spritzt total. Wir hätten es auch schön gefunden, wenn wenigstens ein paarülltüten auf Vorrat da gewesen wären. Dass einfach so jemand ohne Vorankündigung oder Entschuldigung kommt um den Rasen zu mähen, fanden wir etwas befremdlich”

    “Es war ein toller Urlaub zum Entschleunigen, mit vielen neuen Eindrücken aus der Region. Ich würde es genau so wieder machen. Positiv: Die ruhige Lage und die kurzen Wege zum Wasser bzw zu den Restaurants. Negativ: Es war etwa hellhörig im Haus und die Badezimmer waren immer etwas feucht, sodass Handtücher schlecht trockneten. Restaurant: Riddles in the sand - Ein tolles Restaurant an der Hafenkante, mit wirklich tollen Gerichten. Es ist nicht ganz günstig, aber für den Charme der Weinpavillions zahlt man gerne drauf. Qualitativ gibt es nämlich nichts auszusetzen. Ausflüge: Einen Tagesausflug nach Schiermoonigok - Was für ein schönes Fleckchen Erde. Die Fährzeiten sind etwas schwierig, aber es lohnt sich trotzdem. Für 30€ können zwei Personen hin und zurück fahren. Die Fähre ist komfortabel und die Insel hat genau die richtige Größe, um die interessantes Ecken zu Fuß abzulaufen.”

    “Positiv: Nettes kleines Ferienhaus mit guter Ausstattung, die untere Etage sehr hübsch und stilvoll eingerichtet, obere Etage könnte einen neuen Anstrich vertragen. Gartenmöbel mit Polstern und Gartenpflege würden dem netten Häuschen einen noch besseren Eindruck verschaffen.”

    “Ein sehr schönes Ferienhäuschen ohne viel Schnick-Schnack aber mit allem, was man braucht. Gemütliche zweckmäßige Einrichtung, gute Küchenausstattung, alles sauber. Nur die vorhandenen Fahrräder waren nur noch etwas für den Schrotthändler, leider nicht zu gebrauchen. Auch ein Sonnenschutz auf der Terrasse fehlte, ansonsten ein sehr schönes Grundstück mit weitem Blick auf die Felder.”
